Dont assume that fruit wine is the sweet sickly stuff of the 80s and 90s that it used to be. Winemaker, Steve Plowman, assures that Pukeko Grove is producing fruit wines to rival any grape variety on any restaurant menu. Pukeko Grove fruit winery, based in Riverhead combines modern technology with traditional methods to coax the most distinctive f!avours from some of New Zealand?s finest locally grown fruits. Boysenberry, Feijoa and Kiwifruit varieties exist in both still and sparkling, all naturally low in alcohol at just 8.5 percent in comparison to regular wine made from grapes that usually sits above 12 percent. The boutique winery scooped the 2008 NZ Fruit Wine Awards with five out of six wines winning medals. The awards saw Pukeko Grove win the ?Best White? category with their Feijoa wine.
